How can I look after my golf shoes?

If you are going to buy a FootJoy golf shoe, proper care and attention is needed to prolong and maintain the look, feel, comfort and performance of your shoes. We recommend both leather and synthetic shoes are thoroughly cleaned and properly stored between rounds to prolong the life of the golf shoe. We recommend rotating two pairs of shoes between rounds, which will last longer than the life of a single pair. Ideally, you would use a shoehorn when putting on the shoes to protect the heel of the shoe and always leave shoe trees in your golf shoes when not in use to order to maintain the shape of the shoe. Damage to the heel can cause improper fit in the heel which can lead to blistering and overall discomfort. You must always check the cleats of the shoe (if spiked) before and after a round to ensure they are intact and secured properly. And finally, we recommend you don’t store your shoes in your car, where high temperatures can slowly break down some of the materials used in the shoe, resulting in a decreased life-span of the golf shoe.

How do I clean my golf shoes?

Different cleaning techniques are required for FootJoy golf shoes, depending on the upper material of the shoe. If you are cleaning leather golf shoes or synthetic golf shoes, remove dirt and residue using mild soap and water. Allow to air dry at room temperature away from direct sunlight, do not dry your shoes using a blow-dryer or by putting them on any external heat source. Excessive heat can damage both the uppers and the outsoles. If the shoes are a dark colour, use an applicable colour shoe creme to maintain the look and conditioning of the full grain or calfskin leather.

If the shoe uppers are made from a mesh material, soak them in the sink with a squirt of liquid dish soap or laundry detergent and warm water. Dip a soft cloth or soft-bristled cleaning brush in the soapy water. Scrub the mesh to remove dirt, dust and residue. Blot or dab at the mesh with a cold water-dampened cloth to remove soap residue. Allow the golf shoes to air dry. Do not place the shoes directly in the sun, but rather allow them to air-dry in a shaded area or indoors.

If your golf shoes become soaked during a round, clean them quickly after. Place crumpled newspaper or tissue inside the shoe for 10-12 hours to soak up any excess water. Remove newspaper or tissue after 12 hours and replace with Shoe Trees if you have them. Shoe trees will restore the shape of the upper material and smooth the linings in the shoe, absorbing any remaining water and odour. We recommend using wooden shoe trees, which are far more effective at absorbing water than plastic shoe trees.

How do I change the cleats on my spiked golf shoes?

The current FootJoy spiked shoe range features a range of different removable cleats and insert systems, all produced by the same manufacturer, SoftSpikes. SoftSpikes provide the most innovative and compatible insert system on the market to ensure superior cleat retention – assuring cleats remain in the shoe under the toughest of conditions. Unfortunately, FootJoy does not sell replacement spikes. You can view a listing of our current golf shoes and respective spikes here. If you cannot find these at a local dealer, you may purchase them directly from the manufacturer. Each different spike type requires a different installation technique, you can visit SoftSpikes.co.uk to download guides and videos on how to replace the right cleats for your FootJoy shoe.

How waterproof are FJ golf shoes?

FootJoy waterproof golf shoes purchased in the United Kingdom all come with 1-year waterproof protection, guaranteeing that the golf shoe will be waterproof in normal use for one year from the date of original purchase, provided that the shoes have suffered no cuts, abrasions, or other damage and have not been subjected to alteration, misuse, abuse or another mistreatment. Should the waterproof golf shoe leak within the warranty period, FootJoy will replace the shoes with the same style or equivalent FootJoy shoe. The FJ shoe range features several different waterproof materials that provide protection including Premium ChromoSkinTM leather, that has been treated and processed to ensure waterproof properties are engaged at a molecular level and is more commonly featured on best-selling shoes models like Pro|SL and Tour Alpha. More lightweight waterproof golf shoes like Flex XP and Hyperflex include a membrane barrier inside the outer layer of the shoe to provide waterproof protection, whilst maintaining breathability. These waterproof materials vary depending on the shoe model and will be stated on the specific product page.
