Am I wearing the right size golf shoe?

Your men’s golf shoe size really matters. Testing has shown that your performance can improve from 6-21% if you are wearing golf shoes that properly fit you. Sounds simple, but over 70% of people are wearing the wrong size golf shoes without even knowing it. The are several signs that would suggest you are wearing the wrong size, like bunching of the leather, excessive wear in the heel pocket and insole, and the eyelets being too close or too far apart when done up. If you see any of these signs with your men’s golf shoes, we recommend getting them properly fitted at your local pro shop before purchasing a pair of golf shoes.

Why is shoe fit important for golf?

If your men’s golf shoes fit you properly, it can significantly improve your comfort, performance, and appearance of the shoe. Having the right fit will reduce friction and any possible slipping of the foot inside the shoe, which could result in blistering and will ensure you and your feet remain comfortable for the whole round. Slipping will also impact the shape of the golf shoe and any possible wear from excessive movement, keeping your shoes looking newer for longer. Most importantly, the right-fitting men’s shoe will increase your swing force but up to as much as 21%, resulting in more power and control when swinging the golf club and ultimately better golf performance.

How waterproof are FJ golf shoes?

FootJoy waterproof golf shoes purchased in the United Kingdom all come with 1-year waterproof protection, guaranteeing that the golf shoe will be waterproof in normal use for one year from the date of original purchase, provided that the shoes have suffered no cuts, abrasions, or other damage and have not been subjected to alteration, misuse, abuse or other mistreatment. Should the waterproof golf shoe leak within the warranty period, FootJoy will replace the shoes with the same style or equivalent FootJoy shoe. The FJ shoe range features several different waterproof materials that provide protection including Premium ChromoSkinTM leather, which has been treated and processed to ensure waterproof properties are engaged at a molecular level and is more commonly featured on best-selling shoe models like Pro|SL and Tour Alpha. More lightweight waterproof golf shoes like Flex XP and Hyperflex include a membrane barrier inside the outside layer of the shoe to provide waterproof protection, whilst maintaining breathability. These waterproof materials vary depending on the shoe model and will be stated on the specific product page.

How do I know what size golf shoe to buy?

Your men’s golf shoe size is very important so we recommend you visit your local pro shop or attend an FJ shoe fitting event to get properly fitted using a Brannock Device, which will determine the correct length and width of your foot. However, there are a number of techniques to check if you are currently wearing the right size before you purchase your next pair of golf shoes.

  1. Rule of thumb – the opening at the top of your shoes should be about a thumb’s width apart. Other factors like arch height can affect this, but it is a good place to start.
  2. The longest Toe – Leave about ½” of space between your longest toe and the end of your shoe.
  3. The Flex Point – When flexed, the break of the shoe should fall perfectly with the flex of your forefoot.
  4. Just Listen – If the shoe’s volume fits your foot, you may hear a ‘whoosh’ sound when you insert your foot.
  5. Take a Test Drive – There should be no excess movement in the shoe when you walk or practice a swing.
